isthewill: Giving classes is rewarding. Being able to understand something, and give it back to people, is something I always loved. One of the “possible choice of career” that I had imagined was being a teacher. To be fair those moments are not very “sport”. You don’t not practice but, they are exhausting and, in a way, intimate…Not only you have to teach your technique to people, but you also have to know how their body works with the technique, why they do what do, and being able to “debug” some of their bio-mechanical errors. But it’s also something for your ego. Not only do you have to teach, but you also have to “submit” your mind to self-criticism and always thinking about what you do, if you want to learn from them too.We use no protection, we have the “SeCuRi”, standing for Service (being able to help your partner so he can grow, hence you grow with him/her), Care, as you don’t want to cause injury, and Respect. Somebody can be bad at lightsaber but will teach you a lot on your teaching capabilities, or will grow a lot and be one of the best students. This is something that can be applied in everyday life as well. I’ve seen those people. I think we have been them too. Not doing service, not caring, not respecting. I think I’m becoming a better human being with that, learning our to manage conflict, patience, being the students and the teacher and just letting go of the things you could think (is he my friend ? my pupil ? my teacher) to focus on what you are actually living. -- source link
