dynamicafrica: Stream Kenyan Band Sauti Sol’s New Album ‘Live and Die in Afrika’. After releasing singles such as Still the One, Nishike, Sura Yako, Shake Yo Bam Bam and Isabella, one of Kenya’s most popular contemporary bands Sauti Sol have finally dropped their third album, Live and Die in Afrika. In collaboration with telecommunications company Safaricom Kenya, the band originally made the 15-track album available for free download for 48 hours, beginning November 20th, as a gift to their fans. With strong guitar rhythms throughout, influence from Soukous sounds and beautifully sung Swahili verses, the entire album lyrically and musically pays tribute to Africa. The title track and album cover art set the tone for a Pan-African anthem that, between the two of them, references every region of the continent. As the band notes, “The album is a celebration of the African continent coming of age, flaunting the richness in cultural diversity, talent and resources…There is a willingness to aspire everything and anything African.” As team Sauti Sol point out on Relax, their “fantasy is a new reality” as their longtime dreams of success have finally materialized evidently in their music and ever growing popularity. And of course, what would Sauti Sol be without their deeply romantic signature love songs? Between Sura Yako, Say Yeah and Still the One, Nipe Nipuke and Nishike, the crooning that oozes from these songs will leave you somewhere between smitten and flustered. Formed in 2005 in Nairobi, members Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano and Savara Mudigi, who met in high school, along with guitarist Polycarp Otieno, released their debut studio album Mwanzo in 2009 that featured Lazizi, one of the band’s most popular songs to date. Their 2011 sophomore album Sol Folosfia followed, as well as their eponymous EP in 2012 that saw them work with South African producer Spoek Mathambo. The band has received numerous awards including a Museke Online Africa Music Award, Kisima Music Award, Channel O Music Video Award, MTV Europe Music Award and a All Africa Music Award. Last year, the band broke records with their video for ’Nishike’ that became the most watched music video on Youtube in Kenya for 2014. Live and Die in Afrika is available for pre-order on iTunes and at Nakumatt stores countrywide. Catch them live on tour in Kenya this December. Stream the album here. -- source link
