mick1780: iraweapons: gett-merkedd: Provisional Irish Republican graffiti in Northern Ireland This was painted in Belfast overnight on feb 9-10 of 1996, the night after the canary wharf bombing in London. The UK were insisting the IRA (who had been on ceasefire for about a year and a half) decomission all arms before diplomatic discussions could continue. The bombing involved a truck full of ammonium nitrate and sugar, a 90 minute warning, £50-100 million in property damage, and the death of two news stand workers who were not evacuated from the area. The next morning this grafitti had appeared. A couple weeks later the PM announced that they would resume negotiations, dropping the demand for decomissioning beforehand.
