artchipel:Curator’s Monday 131Marie Assénat (France/USA)Marie Assénat was born and raised in Paris, currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She spent five years in Brussels, Belgium where she studied graphic design and illustration at La Cambre, the National School of Visual Art before moving to New York to work as an illustrator. Inspired by nature, animals and moments from her childhood, Marie enjoys working on a wide range of subjects and connects to the children’s universe as well as the adult’s. Her first book Coulico was published in 2011 in France and in Belgium by Pastel publisher. The same year, she received a bronze medal from 3X3 the magazine of contemporary illustration. In 2012 she is selected in the American Illustration annual. Her clients in Europe and in the US include: The New York Times, The New Yorker, Meatpaper Journal, The Diner Journal, Parade Magazine, AD Magazine, Marie Claire, ELLE, Maison Française.
