bhujangan:kropotkindersurprise:25 November, 2020 - Hundreds of thousands of farmers and workers are marching towards a blocked-off Delhi in preparation for a national strike on the 26th and 27th against the BJP’s anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-poor policies.Up to 300 million workers are expected to join in the strike. It will be interesting to see how much attention they will get in the media outside of India. If past massive general strikes in India are anything to go by: almost none. [video]/[article]OP didn’t mention this, but these farmers are marching from Punjab to Delhi in protest of privatization of the farming industry. Ever since the 1980′s-1990′s Sikh genocide, Punjab farmers have faced heavy state suppression for decades, including diverting water from Punjab, importing drugs, and a suicide crisis. Some of the demands of the community was economic help & modernization ( bringing electricity, technology, etc to Punjab) for farmers, an end to diversion of water from Punjab, equal distribution of land, and extra assistance for scheduled castes. These demands were made in 1973, the state response was genocide, and state suppression is still going on.The police put up these barricades in anticipation of the protest. They have the water to spray protesters but not to irrigate the farmers’ crops. -- source link
