qsy-complains-a-lot:peashooter85:The Kunitomo Air RifleKunitomo Ikkansai was a Japanese inventor who lived in the late 1700’s to mid 1800’s. He is especially known for building the first Japanese reflective telescope in 1831. In 1820, after studying various European designs, he created his own air rifle in an experiment to develop new manufacturing techniques and technologies. Based off of Dutch designs, a tank of compressed air was located in the buttstock, and pulling the trigger allowed a blast of air to enter the breech. -- source link
