I always find the logic of blaming the US government for helping create Middle Eastern terrorist groups a bit faulty. I mean, there is a good chance that people likes Bin Laden would still have perpetrated the acts of terror that they did, even if the US didn’t get involved in Afghanistan.I mean, hell, one the Taliban’s first targets were the Mujahideen who fought against the Russians, right? That is correct- many of the Mujahids who had fought against the USSR joined the Northern Alliance under Ahmed Shah Massoud which fought against the Taliban, and Bin Laden had nothing to do with the US involvement. He went to Afghanistan of his own accord and used the money from his family’s businesses to fund the groups he was with. I wonder how long the lie of the US supporting/creating the Taliban will persist now. Well considering the most basic fact that the Taliban didn’t come it existence until 1994. I am guessing as people want to be guilted in to everything. Also this is the equivalent of saying since the US supported various Chinese factions during their occupation by the Japanese (The nationalists, the communists, anyone who could fight back). That the US always wanted the PRC in power, and openly supported them. Still, many of the guerillas the US trained then went on to eventually join the taliban. Western intervention broke Libya and turned it into a war-torn hellhole of a failed state, and the US and Britain armed the very jihadists who are now fighting under the banner of the Islamic state. And now we’re arming Kurds who aren’t even hiding their ties to the terrorist PKK to deal with them. The mistake our governments keep making is assuming that the enemy of our enemy is our friend. We shouldn’t arm anyone in the region and just stay out of it. And especially don’t arm anybody whose battle cry is aloha snackbar, and then act all surprised when they start murdering innocents. Also, OP’s gifset is ridiculous. Islam is about the opposite of a religion of peace, judging from its teachings as well as its actions. This is all utter insanity. The Qur’an mentions peace because it suggests there will only ever be peace when there is only Islam. There will be peace when the kafir are dead.Any ‘peaceful’ or ‘pleasant’ verses are also null and void in the Qur’an. Mohammed claims those verses came to him from Satan. The verses are replaced later in the book when his message became violent. Mohammed was violent because polytheists, Koreishites and Christians wouldn’t believe him. Mohammed turned his back on the Pagan Allah and created this new Allah that didn’t have three daughters, a new Allah that was vengeful and violent.I hate it when people try and talk about the Qur’an as if they know it, when they clearly haven’t even read it. Is this from a fictional movie or a documentary? I would blow up all over this professor and his bullshit. Perhaps he’d love to show his students how much oil the US has actually imported since they toppled Saddam’s regime or how peaceful Afghanistan was before 9/11 and US War on Terror. Professors like this guy are the kind of people that are probably funneling funds over to Islamic State. His talking points are a fraud. Radical Islam has always been the region’s worst enemy, not the US. We pulled out and they’re right back at it tenfold. This isn’t even starting to mention the moral equivocation of the deaths that muslims have caused in their own countries for the past 30 years, which far outnumbers all of the deaths caused by America’s involvement in the middle east, and none of those deaths were caused because of America, in fact if anything, less deaths resulted due to American intervention. Funny. If I said someone was “only” raped 41 times. Or “only” stabbed 41 times.Or “only” robbed 41 times. That sounds like a really shitty argument. “41 of those shitty times isn’t that much when you compare it to the times they weren’t stabbed repeatedly!”.(Never mind trauma and ripple effects.)I think the fact that Islam, any religion, mentions it AT ALL in the first place is the fucking problem. Not “how many” times it mentions it. You only need one. It only calls for lvoing destruction of infidels 41 times, jeez, get over it guise. They mention love, a much more common, everyday word, more times. It must be a book and religion of peace! Lvoing sophistry and apologism in this GIF set is through the fucking roof. ..Do y’all know what a jihad is? I love when scripted TV shows accommodate a setting for the writer’s political views to triumph over convenient straw man argumentsJust because adherents of a religion are generally peaceful and law abiding doesn’t mean the religion itself isn’t based on something/scripture inherently less than peaceful. Especially when the scripture doubles as literal law and a guideline of governance heavily laden with exceedingly violent punishments for non-adherents. Can we get some fucking citations up in here? -- source link
