York Minster - The East Screen by RobertLee99 York Minster is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. After several centuries of building, it was completed and consecrated in 1472. The east end of the cathedral, including the Lady Chapel seen bottom centre, was built between 1361 and 1405 in the Perpendicular Gothic style. The ornately carved stone screen that dominates this image separates the Lady Chapel from the Quire. In gothic churches, the Lady Chapel is usually the largest and most prominently positioned chapel, and it is often the place where one finds the best decorations, including statues, roof bosses and stained-glass windows. Sadly, this also made lady chapels very popular things to destroy during the Reformation, which means that there are few remaining. This super-wide-angle view was taken from a high resolution spherical panorama I created by taking 9 frames with a fisheye lens and stitching them together to form a 188 megapixel image that covers the entire 360˚ view, from floor to ceiling. Each frame was taken with 5 bracketed exposures to capture the full dynamic range from the bright windows to the dark corners. I transformed the spherical panorama to the 2D rectangle you see here using stereographic projection. https://flic.kr/p/2ks8S4z -- source link
