happinessbythekilowatts: njborn95: happinessbythekilowatts: chutchsaysdealwithit: jezebuilt: njborn95: May 31, 1986 the fifteenth special stage of the ADAC-Rally Hessen At 20:34 the Ford RS200 driven by Marc Surer ran wide on a fast right hander. It spun on the grassy verges of the road and hit a tree broadside near the engine compartment at a speed estimated to be around 200 km/h. The car sheered this tree in half and continued to slide over the grass until it it a larger tree just behind its b-column. The Ford exploded in a great ball of fire and broke in two parts. Surer’s co-driver Michel Wyder was killed instantly. Surer was ejected from the car. He suffered multiple fractures, serious burns and other injuries. Holy shit Wait wait wait wait wait… Someone survived that?!? Yep, Surer is still alive today. Not sure if it’s accurate but I read (on the internet so take it with a grain of salt) that after he was ejected from the crash, he dragged himself while on fire and with broken legs into a nearby creek to put himself out. Still amazes me, that the car actually hit smaller tree before it exploded. Only after did I read that did I see it in the footage. The car loses absolutely no momentum. happinessbythekilowatts I read that somewhere too but I’m not sure on whether that bit happened or not. Yeah it does sound a bit farfetched. Still, regardless, it’s freaking amazing that anyone survived that crash!!! -- source link
