A percussion Northwest Trade Musket with tack decorations, mid 19th century.Produced in England the Northwest Trade musket was a simple firearm traded to Native American tribes living in Northwestern Canada and Alaska for animal pelts. Most Northwest Trade Muskets can be identified by their large trigger guards which made it easier for a user to fire while wearing gloves, and the serpent trigger guard on the right hand side opposite of the lock. Most were made in smoothbore, so that the user could hunt small game, fowl, and large game. Many owners personalized their muskets with tribal designs. -- source link
