The Puzzle Jug,A popular drinking game in Europe from the Middle Ages up to the 19th century, the puzzle jug was a large jug (usually filled with ale, wine, or mead) which had perforations at the top.  This made it impossible to drink from conventionally.  The trick was that there was a hidden tube with an opening at the rim or spout, and a tube which runs down the handle to the bottom of the jug.  The fun of the game was in the fact that eventually a drinker who become inebriated (drunk) would forget the puzzle, and inevitably spill the beverage all over him/herself. -- source link
