Happy November! Chopping firewood is the Labor of the Month this month, as presented in LJS 449, a 15th century Medical and astronomical miscellany from Germany that includes a full calendar. Gathering acorns for pigs is another typical labor for November, as below from a 15th century French Book of Hours (Genève, Bibliothèque de Genève, Ms. lat. 33, p. 11r – Book of Hours (www.e-codices.unifr.ch/en/bge/lat0033/11r from Flickr: https://flic.kr/p/dpERMY).I’ll be posting a Labor from LJS 449 every month through May 2016. The manuscript also includes illustrations of all the astrological signs, which I’ll also be posting.Manuscript description and images: http://openn.library.upenn.edu/Data/LJSchoenbergManuscripts/html/ljs449.htmlEbook (epub format): http://repository.upenn.edu/sims_ebooks/62/Katelyn Mesler, 13th Century Entanglements, Part 2, a post on the SIMS blog about the Techel/Azareus Complex, “a Latin lapidary in which engravings of astrological symbols are said to imbue the stones with powers” - which is included in LJS 449 -- source link
