However, homosexual couples 1) do not add to the population, and 2) take care of children that would not be taken care of otherwise. Stop.Granted, this is clearly not a serious video.And I am all about babies being adopted into families that love them, gay, straight, asexual, whatever domestic/sexual arrangement you got.But it is incredibly harmful to adopted children to participate in a discourse where adoption is a “rescue” from “abandonment.” This is the kind of discourse that enables some of the incredibly problematic dynamics that can be present in overseas adoptions.I try to assume that every family that participates in adoptions does so with the best interest of the child in their heart. But this shit does not.While individual circumstances vary, the way to think about adoption that does the least damage to the child involved is that adoption is an arrangement between two families that love a child and want to give it the best possible home.Adoption is an incredibly complex issue with economic and racial dimensions that people find difficult to talk about, and obviously adding in sexuality makes it harder.I do not mean to say that anyone’s adoption has been party to this. And if I am fucking up, I am open to being called on it.But stigmatizing the choice of biological parents to give up their child as abandonment is a shitty thing to do, which makes it harder for those parents to give a child up, and is hurtful and harmful to the child.So knock it off. -- source link
