I needed a break from 1840, in fact I needed a break from that era of the show all together. I think rewatching the entirety of PT1970 fried my giving a fuck tolerance levels, so I am going back and rewatching the early Barnabas kidnaps Maggie episodes, which just serve to remind me why I fell in love with this show in the first place. All spooky atmosphere and suspense. It’s not gory at all, but if you think about the things that Barnabas is doing to Maggie it’s completely horrifying. From her sudden “illness”, to her fighting her personality changes whenever she’s being influenced by him, to her “death” and disappearance. Everyone in the cast does an amazing fucking job, and the writing is just fantastic. The scene where Vicki is watching over her and the dogs are trying to break in through the outside door and Maggie just sits there and says she doesn’t hear anything and if Vicki is so afraid to just leave already, even though as the sun set she was practically begging not to be left alone… these are some of my favorite moments. When Burke breaks down the door and sees Maggie lying across the bed bleeding from the neck, the brief look of total confusion and incomprehension on his face is fantastic. This is horror at it’s finest. May I also add that I fucking LOVE that amazon has closed captions. I don’t need them, but I *love* reading along with the script. -- source link
