petratodd:saathi1013:destinationtoast:Which are the biggest ‘ships in fandom? On Monday, The Daily Dot posed this question. Today, I have answers about the most common relationships on AO3. (with a healthy dose of caveats, as usual!) Read More…what was I saying about ship inequality as re: gender and race (even when there are cool women and PoC in canon), and fandoms with white dudeslash potential being more popular on the whole as re:fanwork production than shows with a lot of inclusivity?Yeah, that.NUMBERS, YA’LL.I took a similar look at the numbers last year, and yeah, it was pretty close although I have to say AO3 is a not a great place to do the measuring. I love AO3, so it’s not a slam on the site, but places like FF.net still have tons more fics and pairings. The fact that the people couldn’t even register for AO3 for several months skews the numbers. When invites were very limited, people who ship certain pairings were also more likely to share invites with their friends who ship similar pairings, skewing the numbers in a certain direction. But yes, fandom is a total white cishet dude slashfest. Sorry, didn’t mean to derail a point I actually agree with. :)I’d be really curious for someone to crunch the ff.net numbers. Not because we won’t wind up with something similar (I’m sure we will), but it might help get a fuller picture. Unfortunately, my own statistics abilities are nil. -- source link
