its-just-a-phage:its-just-a-phage:Feeding frenzySo…. Those definitely aren’t Tilapia. Tilapia come in a variety of colors and are actually stocky, almost diamond shaped cichlids. These fish on the other hand are brownish green with pronounced barbels, and have loaf-shaped bodies. These are carpThese ones in particular aren’t farmed fish. They live in the biggest lake I have personally ever seen, and congregate next to a store that sells disgustingly cheap dog food that tourists can buy to feed them. Now I am in no way telling you to feed your fish (or your dog) anything like this, but out of everything they could have picked to sell to tourists, a grain heavy, low protein food wasn’t a terrible option for the fish that still presumably graze on the abundant algae in the lake. So I guess my main point here is that while I in no way support factory farming, I think there might be better ways of discussing its inherent problems and consequences than spreading misinformation. -- source link
