fueltransitsleep: allthecanadianpolitics: Political Compass has released their party ideology grid for the 2019 Canadian election. Reminder that only the NDP and Bloc Quebecois are left of Centre, politically, and the NDP is Canada’s most left major party in Canada. The Greens, Liberals, Conservatives and People’s Party are all right of Centre. https://twitter.com/christoaivalis/status/1171552560408334339 This seems to confirm Andray Domise’s take that the problem with the NDP (aside from media bias) isn’t their platform; the progressive stances they’ve taken are generally poll well when people are asked about them specifically (such as a wealth tax, etc.). Unlike progressive/leftist movements in other countries (such as Bernie Sanders in the US or Jeremy Corbyn in the UK), the NDP has been unwilling (or unable to) energize its base to organize outside of the party itself. Compare that to Bernie Sanders with the DSA/Justice Democrats or Jeremy Corbyn with Momentum, all examples of movements that are associated with those figures/leftist politics, but aren’t actually formal parts of the party/directly run by those political figures.https://twitter.com/andraydomise/status/1169762320291192833 -- source link
