fluidreflections: ReappearanceThe night stretches in an endless sphere, painting sky, earth, and sea black; the only distinction between wind and water are the stars shivering among faint ripples far below. Gradually, colored specks begin twinkling, gathered together on the horizon. My heart twinges, recognizing the similarity to city lights left behind. I remind myself that familiarity is not necessarily home. Those lights behind me and those in front of me may look similar, but indeed, they represent very different things. I left behind an empty mirage, in favor of a lighthouse. A beacon of hope. A new beginning. The lights are now spread out below me, having replaced the stars for a different kind of beauty. A moving web of colors, shapes, brightness, all of it dynamic against the negative space. I’ve always preferred night cityscapes. There’s something soothing about seeing living art sprawled out in front of me, and knowing I can melt into the background; I have no obligation to it, no urgent responsibility to keep it alive and moving. It has no need of me except to observe, to wonder, to appreciate. Which is exactly what I intend to do in my new landscape. I will be quiet, a simple guest in the frame. I feel the plane’s slow descent and inhale as we are carefully engulfed by colors and assimilated into a bigger picture.~Reyna M.~Photo credit: Riziq !!! -- source link
