gaming: Indie Game Spotlight: Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion Tax season just got extended even more in this Indie Game Spotlight. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a game about a rowdy turnip who, well, commits tax evasion. Mayor Onion evicts you from your greenhouse and forces you to do odd jobs for him to get it back! He’ll have you exploring the vast farmland, growing a variety of tools to solve plant-tastic puzzles in the depths of worn-down buildings, and challenging massive beasts that stand in your way! We spoke to Yukon Wainczak, the programmer and pixel artist for the game. His team consists of himself, Jennifer Kindl, who does all the vector artwork and character design, as well as Jordan Kegler, who helps with marketing! They also have James Currier and Ryan Borbone of flowerblvck making the music! What are the ways we can pay back our debt? Turnip Boy will have to do a few odd jobs for Mayor Onion to pay back his debt. These include fighting off wild beasts in an old barn so Mayor Onion can renovate it into a town hall, and fending off moldy sweets in an old farmhouse in search for a rare fork! Mayor Onion won’t have a shortage of work for you, and some of these jobs will have Turnip Boy uncovering secrets from the old world. You’ll start to discover that everything isn’t exactly what it seems… Are there any characters who are inspired by someone in particular? There are tons of characters inspired by pop-culture references, as well as general tropes. I can’t go too much into this due to some spoilers, but we have a few Jojo references hidden in there, as well as a few other gag characters! Will this teach us how to adult any better? Absolutely not, haha! We planned out the story for the game before any of us had any understanding of how taxes work (I’m fresh out of college), so trust me when I say that there is very little reliable information about the tax system in the game! If any video game character could make a special appearance in your game, who would it be? Actually, probably Tom Nook! I think it would be a funny dynamic having him offer to build Turnip Boy another house. Time to pay Mayor Onion back! You can currently pre-order Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion over on itch or wishlist it on Steam. -- source link
