scconfederate: Flag of the 2nd Maryland Infantry, Co. A (CSA) This hand-sewn silk First National pattern Confederate flag flag with eleven stars is believed to have been made by the ladies of Baltimore, Maryland. They presented it to Captain William H. Murray, who commanded Company H, 1st Maryland, which served in the Army of Northern Virginia (Confederate States of America) until the unit was disbanded in the summer of 1861. He reorganized his company as Company A of the new 2nd Maryland Infantry. Captain Murray was killed during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863, while leading an assault at Culp’s Hill. His brother, Lieutenant Clapham Murray, then assumed command of the company. When he donated the flag to the museum in 1903, he stated that the company had carried the flag throughout the entire war. -- source link
