mooselane: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS! DEADLINE JUNE 10, 2016 Some of us think a lot about what we eat. I mean a lot. We research food systems, supply chains, animal biology, and environmental impacts. We deliberate interspecies relationships, human rights, cultural traditions, and capitalist resistance. Often, we come to very different conclusions about food ethics. This zine is a comparative study of sorts, examining how we as individuals think about food and how we choose to eat. Please answer the following questions either in a series of short essays or long essay form (no poetry, photography, or interpretive dance, sorry). Shoot for 1000 words max. Who are you?Give your name and a 1-2 sentence bio. Where do you live? Name the city or region, and briefly describe the community you are part of (Urban? Rural? Radical? Conservative? Hippie? Hipster? Etc etc). Describe your diet/food choices, and what, if any, ethical concerns underlie those decisions.Consider what you choose to eat, how you source your food and how it plays a role in your daily life, as well as your personal experiences and your knowledge of food industries and systems. Do these ethics extend beyond the realm of diet/food choices? In what ways? (Are you an activist? Farmer? Do you make similar ethical choices in other realms of consumption? Beyond consumption?). Do these ethics intersect with other arenas? (Anti-colonialism, labor rights, anti-racism, feminism, queer liberation, etc etc). Are your current diet/food choices ideal? What do you wish you could change? What prevents you from doing so? (Money? Access? Energy? Allergy? Etc etc). How does your community affect your diet/food choices? Are supported by or in conflict with your community? Does this affect your decisions? What is your favorite food to eat or dish to make? Feel free to share a recipe!
