A beautiful Early Bronze Age pottery vessel from Dunleckny, Co Carlow. It was discovered in 1847 during the construction of the Carlow to Kilkenny railway line, which disturbed two prehistoric cist burials. These contained the remains of an adult and a child who were accompanied by four pottery urns. Unfortunately the pictured vessel is the only one to survive as “the workmen in a scramble for the treasure they were supposed to contain, broke all but one’.
