peashooter85:The Slocum Sliding Sleeve RevolverManufactured by Brooklyn Arms Co. from 1863 - 1864, the Slocum Sliding Sleeve Revolver was unique in that it did not have a loading gate like most cartridge revolvers. Instead the each chamber on the cylinder had an individual gate that would slide forward opening the chamber and allowing the user to insert a cartridge. The purpose of this was to circumvent the rear loading mechanism patents held by Smith and Wesson. The revolver was chambered for a .32 caliber rimfire cartridge and had a five round clinder. It was produced in single action only. Around 10,000 were produced. -- source link
