Wearmouth Metro by Andrew Shenton Wearmouth Bridge Tyne & Wear Metro 4074 leads a service to South Hylton crossing the Wear over the 1879 railway bridge from Monkwearmouth into Sunderland. Running alongside is the 1929 road bridge, which once carried the A19 north, designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson and fabricated by the famous bridge-building firm of Sir William Arrol & Co. at their Dalmarnock Ironworks in Glasgow (famous for building the Forth Rail Bridge and the steel structure of Tower Bridge in London). (Thanks to Wikipedia). The line here is shared between National Rail and the Metro, I did intend to photograph a Northern Rail Hexham to Battersby service, but it was running late and was too dark by the time it arrived, the line here was converted to Metro in 2002 with the Metro sharing part of the Durham coast line rather than taking over the line as in other areas. This is a view north looking out over Monkwearmouth, Roker, Seaburn and out over the North Sea. 9th November 2019 https://flic.kr/p/2hLztZY -- source link
