Happy Constitution Day!This day commemorates the creation of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787. Since the anniversary falls on a Saturday this year, it is officially celebrated on the closest weekday, which is today! The Constitution consists of seven articles which define the separation of powers into legislative, executive, and judicial branches, the rights and responsibilities of the state governments, and how to amend the constitution. The document was ratified on June 21, 1788 when it was signed by 39 of the 55 delegates. The ratified Constitution is on display at the @usnatarchives in Washington, DC, where it is seen by more than one million visitors every year.Image: “Photograph of Jefferson High School Marching Colonials Performing on the Steps of the National Archives Building on Constitution Day,” 1974. -- source link
