unwillingadventurer:100 favourite First Doctor era moments- 100- Thank you for the ‘we’BARBARA: I thought we could drive there, wait ‘till she arrives and see where she goes.IAN: Oh…all right.BARBARA: Well, that is, if you’re not doing anything.IAN: No, I’m not. After you….We’re kicking off the countdown with the wonderful first scene of the first two companions to grace our screens on Doctor Who. Before we see the inside of the TARDIS, or the Doctor himself, this scene introduces us to the two people we’re going to follow on their journey as they discover Susan’s behaviour, follow her to the Junkyard, get caught up with the Doctor, travel in time and space, and leave this normal classroom behind for a life they never imagined. And at the heart of the journey remains that one desire…to one day get home again, back to this everyday world. And Ian and Barbara are a partnership from the first moment they interact. Barbara confides in Ian, she asks him to go with her to find out about Susan, and he seems quite pleased to follow her. From their first interactions they have chemistry between them (And we don’t just mean the lab equipment), and we know they are going to be great together whether intended romantically or otherwise. We have a history teacher to experience the past, a science teacher to be shown advancement beyond his imagination, and two loyal characters ready to soften the Doctor and change his attitudes to those around him. It all began here in a simple chemistry lab with two nosy teachers and a hell of a load of flirting. -- source link
