geekandmisandry:Veganism is an ethical lens, but spreading false news to support it is not. Red meat is not a known cancer risk let alone a “major” one. Information should be ethical. The WHO classifies red meat as a Group 2A carcinogen. Which means ‘possibly carginogenic’. It’s in that group because there is not quite enough evidence yet, but the results so far are pointing in that direction. Processed meat, on the other hand, is a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning that there is clear proof that there is a connection to cancer. It’s in the same group as tobacco and asbestos. This does not mean it is as deadly as the other two (something which some vegans love to mix up as well), but that the link between cancer and processed meat is about as well established. Here’s the WHO FAQ on red meat and processed meat.tl;dr Red meat is most likely a cancer risk. I would agree it’s not a major one, or at least we don’t know for sure yet, but I definitely wouldn’t call the information completely wrong either. If you’re concerned about cancer, especially intestinal cancers, you’d better avoid red and processed meats or at least cut back on them, as risk increases with the amount according to the FAQ above. -- source link
