Courtyard, Buddhist Temple, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, 2000.Descendants of Chinese laborers brought to Malaya by the British colonists (and others who immigrated from China much earlier) comprise roughly a quarter of Malaysia’s population, and many of them are Buddhists. This temple, in the cool Cameron Highlands, serves Bhuddists who visit from the torrid lowlands as well as a sizable contingent who work the flower, fruit and vegetable farms nearby.
