suppermariobroth:In Super Paper Mario, halfway through the game, a puzzle in the Mirror Hall in Flipside must be solved where all eight blocks in the room must be lit up. Hitting each block makes a certain subset of them change colors, seemingly without an overarching pattern. Attempting to brute force the puzzle takes a very long time; fortunately, the game provides a hint to the answer: simply hit each block from left to right exactly once. However, there is one other solution to the puzzle, which is to hit the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th block from the entrance in order. Due to the complexity of the interaction of the blocks, this was discovered only in 2019, 12 years after the game’s release, by reverse-engineering the code for the blocks and running a program to try out every single combination of hits. This is the only solution that is shorter than the intended solution of hitting each block once.Main Blog | Twitter | Patreon | Small Findings | Source -- source link
