The First Woman to Vote in England Seven years before women won the right to vote in England, France
The First Woman to Vote in England Seven years before women won the right to vote in England, Frances Connelly, her name apparently mistakenly thought to belong to a man, was issued with a polling card for the 1911 South Somerset by-election.Shocked to see a woman at the polling station some men debated whether she ought to be there, but noting that the only rules which technically applied were that her name was the one on the polling card and she had not voted in the election before, they had no choice but to let her vote.Full suffrage was not available to women in England until 1928, although wealthy land-owning women could vote from 1918. -- source link
