americasgreatoutdoors:Did you know that parts of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi were filmed at Death Valley National Park in California? Used as a stand in for the planet Tatooine, Death Valley is the largest U.S. national park outside of Alaska. It’s also the hottest, driest and lowest (282 feet below sea level). A land of contrasts, the park boasts huge, barren salt flats and rugged, wrinkled mountains rising as high as 11,000 feet. From elevated views, visitors can see colorful mineral deposits, deep and winding canyons, rolling sand dunes and spring-fed oases – but not the droids you’re looking for.
