Today (Friday) I went out to lunch to the Cock & Bull, an English-style pub chain with restaurants around Auckland (I went to the one in Newmarket). I ordered the Beef Yorkshire, and boy was it delicious. Normally, I’m not a fan of Roast Beef, but I hadn’t had it in ages, and was craving it. It’s not exactly something you can whip up in a hostel kitchen. The beef was so tender. It was covered in gravy and served on top of a gigantic yorkshire pudding. The meal came with chips and a small vinaigrette salad. And this restaurant had tomato sauce/ketchup for dipping! I didn’t think that I could eat dessert, I was just so stuffed. But the people I was with kept talking about how the Sticky Toffee Pudding sounded good, so I got some for myself. It was quite tasty, but for the amount of pudding you got, there was only a minuscule amount of toffee and ice cream. There was also raisins in the pudding, which thankfully I couldn’t taste. In hindsight, I think I would have enjoyed the passionfruit cheesecake more. I was so stuffed after the meal, that I didn’t need to eat dinner tonight. I will probably have some fruit to snack on later though. I have no idea how much my meal cost, because I didn’t pay for it. If I were to guess, I think that it was around $33 ($18 for main, $12, for dessert, and $3 for Coke Zero [the only fizzy drink option]). On Sundays the pub makes a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, including mash(ed potatoes). I might just have to go back there at some point for another taste. -- source link
