Issue 3 of @wilderness is available for pre-order today. shop.wildernesscollective.com. . Our theme is Oceans. We look at shark-whisperers, deep sea monsters, the genius of Herman Melville, and the black depths of the soul. . One of my favorite parts of this issue is my interview with spiritual teacher Richard Rohr. He is a living legend. My number one. I asked him about the unknowable mysteries of the soul, man’s spiritual position in nature, and the right taming of the ego. Every word that fell from his mouth was a damn golden quote. Here are just a few gems to start you day. . “The wilderness is as much a cathedral as the cathedral.” . “The failure, the difficulty, the humiliations you had to fight through, that’s the only way to the light.” . “It’s always necessary that suffering or humiliation comes. What you’ve so meticulously built in the first half of life with your persona, your success, your good looks, your money, your power has to disappoint you.” . “Picture three boxes: Order, disorder, reorder. That’s the sequence of growing up.” . “The ego wants to be separate, and the ego wants to be superior. The ego avoids one thing, and that’s change.” . “I still have an ego. It’s just that I don’t take it seriously, I don’t pander to it, I’m not offended.” . “We’re all fascinated by ourselves, the mystery we are to ourselves. ‘Why do I do the things I do? Why does that irritate me? Why does that infatuate me?” . “My definition of mystery is not something that’s not knowable, but something that’s infinitely knowable.” . Pre-order this one y'all. Now available at shop.wildernesscollective.com. (There’s a link at @wilderness) We worked hard to make it beautiful and timeless. . : @michaelmuller7 -- source link
