s-e-werronen:The Green Chapel (Lud’s Church, Staffs)The Green Chapel is the place where Sir Gawain must go to meet the Green Knight on New Year’s Day after agreeing to a beheading contest with him the year before. The poet may have had a real location in mind when he described the Green Chapel, and Lud’s Church in Staffordshire is one possibility. It is a crevice formed where a rocky hill has split open. This photograph shows the chapel on New Year’s Day with snow and ice but still green because of all the moss and ferns. -- source link
