szyszkasosnowa:grogulec:Art appreciation post: Podstakanniki (tea glass holders)This used to be a typical way of serving tea in Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and other post-Soviet countries (my friend says that Ukrainian railways still serve tea in glasses with podstakanniki, though:). It may sound silly, but I and my family believe that tea tastes different when one drinks it from glass. I’m not sure how to explain it but it’s kind of true, it does taste different xd These vintage metal ones depict Space Race (Sputnik’s flight) and some floral/fruit patterns.I could never understood why would you make glass holders of heat conductor… Wasn’t the plan not to burn yourself with hot tea…Oh my, yes. My grandma had them and my artistic soul loved the intricate details. But trying to drink from it, it was always a juggle, how to hold it and not to burn yer fingers. Oh dear. -- source link
