jorydayne: Recently, Jason Hudson approached me to “illustrate” a playlist he’d put together. The internet is such a weird and magical place: I feel like I’ve gotten to know Jason pretty well over the years (years, Jason!) through his blog, and would not hesitate to call him a friend, despite the fact that we’ve met in person all of once, and that he lives almost an entire continent away. Between his blog, Twitter, and Instagram, I could probably tell you more about what’s going on his life than I could about my next-door neighbors. Anyway, I thought this would be a fun chance to collaborate. He sent me a couple songs to use as inspiration: Jessie Ware’s Taking in Water, and Perfume Genius’s Dark Parts. Both songs have this really great sensuality to them, and while I definitely drew more from Ware’s piece in terms of imagery, the Perfume Genius track has this great mood. The part of both songs that I found interesting was this kernel of a sort of surrender: the refrain in Perfume Genius’s Dark Parts “I will take the dark part of your heart into my heart” and Ware’s line in Taking in Water, “…holding on forever to keep you, to keep you from slipping too deep….” Both rest on a willingness to shoulder a burden for the sake of what could ultimately be a fatal understanding. As usual, all my line work was done in Illustrator, while shading and texturing was handled in Photoshop. -- source link
