fuckyeahgoodomens:From the DVD commentary, episode 3 Neil Gaiman: Terry Pratchett and I always talked about the idea of Heaven and Hell were more or less floors in the same office block. And that the angels had the nice floors on the top…Douglas Mackinnon: … ‘cause they won that war…Neil Gaiman: … ’cause they won the war, and the demons had the awful offices in the basement.Douglas Mackinnon: I think of all of design concepts and ideas we had to talk about, it was the hardest one to crack though.Neil Gaiman: Mm-hmm.…Neil Gaiman: I remember talking about Hell with Michael [Ralph, the production designer of Good Omens]. There was a point where he showed me this amazing design for something huge and fiery and impressive, and I had to basically say, ‘Well, this is all much too impressive’, I said, 'the key to Hell, for this show, that everything just all a bit shit’. And I love that he took that and that became his mantra for Hell. And Heaven is pristine but you wouldn’t want to be there either, it always punches out the fact that the Earth is filled with life and things happening and people walking, and the Earth is where you’d rather be. -- source link
