The Hurlers, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall by Baz Richardson (now away for a while) This part of Bodmin Moor, near Minions, a few miles north of Liskeard, has the remains of three neolithic stone circles known as The Hurlers, which are thought to date from around 1500 BC. Part of one is pictured here. Scheduled as an ancient monument in 1981, The Hurlers are under the care of the Cornwall Heritage Trust. Tin and copper mining took place throughout this area until early in the 20th century, and many of the engine houses and other remains can still be seen. The engine house in the distance housed a 50-inch pumping engine. It was built in 1881 and was sold on in 1895. The mine shaft it served reached 720 feet and was part of the South Phoenix Mine. The engine house is now a visitor centre. https://flic.kr/p/2mNvrWr -- source link
