whiskeypapist: July 16 is the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It is fitting that July 17 is the feast of the Martyrs of Compiègne. During the French Revolution, 16 Carmelite sisters were maryred for continuing their devotional practices despite the vicious anti-Catholic and anti-Christian sentiment animating the Revolution. Sentenced to death, the martyrs sang Veni, Creator Spiritus as each was led to the guillotine. They were were faithful unto death, and have received the crown of life (Rev. 2:10). The Martyrs of Compiègne were canonized by Pope St. Pius X in 1906. Martyrs of Compiègne, pray for us and pray for all Christians who are persecuted for their faith. Don’t forget the novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel! -- source link
