Believing the wolf to be a reincarnation of their recently decease mayor, a cruel and tyrannical man, the people of Ansbach formed hunting parties to hunt down and kill the beast. Eventually the wolf was cornered and killed, at which point the townspeople dressed the animal as the mayor and hung it from a gibbet in effigy. -- source link
