Since Zeus’s vow to keep him imprisoned forever could not be broken, upon Prometheus’s release he was made to wear a symbolic ring fashioned out of a link of his chain and a piece of rock from the mountain. Most if not all accounts of this event involve Heracles in some manner, but I remember reading a story as a child where Hermes came unbidden and alone to set him free. They have a lot in common, you know, these two. That was the version that always stayed with me– Hermes, proud of his own clever caprice, presenting Prometheus with this ramshackle loophole of a ring. I thought of it myself. Prometheus, twisting the ring onto his finger, far too used to silence to ask him why.But for real, it took every ounce of my willpower not to call this “Prometheus Betrothed”. On the other hand why did I even stop myself? No measure of oblique titling can change the fact that I am apparently writing CLASSICAL MYTHOLOGY SLASHFIC POETRY -- source link
