lumos5001:morsplash:lumos5001:science side of tumblr can you explain this unicolored rainbow I saw on my way to work this morningThe conditions have to be just right for this to happen! Sometimes during stormy/rainy/wet weather when the sun is low enough (sunrise or set) to catch the atmosphere and droplets of water in the air at the just the right angle, the wavelengths of light filter through to create this. The shorter wavelengths of light are scattered but the higher wavelengths get through. Red has the highest wavelength of the visible light on the spectrum that humans can see, thus, a super cool red rainbow! thank you science side of tumblr -- source link
