facts-i-just-made-up:The first photo of a man-made black holeCERN has been making synthetic black holes for several years now, despite the controversy that preceded their original attempt. But this is the first time one has been successfully photographed due to the intense conditions inside the singularity chamber. This specific black hole was named “Nolan” in honor of Christopher Nolan’s new film “Interstellar” which features a black hole. Nolan lasted for only an hour in common time, though due to the theory of relativity the black hole existed for seven years within its own ergosphere. In that time, the singularity managed to suck in a total of 36 pounds of material before collapsing.Nolan’s predecessor, Schumacher, managed to suck in well over a ton. Far from an accomplishment, artificial black holes are not supposed to suck at all. “Schumacher really sucked big time, Nolan was a far better singularity,” said black hole researcher Alexei Bodom. Many other researchers agree, Schumacher almost ended CERN and destroyed the whole supercollider franchise. This is contrast to Burton, the first black hole created which was unanimously praised upon its completion for not sucking at all, but also aging rapidly and showing as a product of its time.“Nolan was far superior to Burton in many ways, though you’ll find most enthusiasts still appreciate the Burton era for what it was, even if Schumacher ruined it completely. We have high hopes that Snyder, our forthcoming black hole, will have a high success rate and will be even better than the Nolan black hole.”Not all researchers have hopes so high though, as rather than running the experiment under proper scientists as they have before, CERN has nominated celebrity Ben Affleck to run the experiment. Affleck is widely considered unqualified and inappropriate for black hole research and some feel the results will be catastrophic.“I have faith in Snyder, but not in Affleck,” said researcher Martha Amon, “Frankly I think Affleck will make this thing suck more than anything has ever sucked before. I can’t really see how it won’t suck with him in the role (or project supervisor). Seriously, fuck Ben Affleck, I’d rather have Adam West today in the role than Ben Affleck.” It remains to be seen how much Ben Affleck will suck in the role and whether the entire project will suck because of him, but with many researchers expecting at least Schumacher levels of suckage, CERN is awaiting the potential backlash should Affleck indeed suck with the power of ten thousand suns.zenfabulous:Berenice Abbott’s “Behavior of Waves”, 1960. -- source link
