Things that scarred me for life as a child I pride myself on not being scared of much and loving horror movies .. NOW. Before I hit puberty I was scared of lots of random things. 1. The giant carnivorous flower in Jumanji. Jesus Christ I was terrified of that thing and that entire movie for a long time. The rubbery, raw design of that flower is still pretty scary. I was also scared of the giant spiders and the quicksand floor that ate Robin Williams. 2. The headless horseman, believe it or not. Sleepy Hollow is now one of my favorite movies, and I love the whole legend, but perhaps it’s BECAUSE it scared me so bad when I was little - the Sleepy Hollow Wishbone was enough to plant the idea in my mind, and I was paralyzed with fear that the coat rack in my room was actually a headless person. 3. The Hollow Man, with its disturbingly realistic CG of Kevin Bacon disappearing and writhing in agony layer by layer scared the crap out of me when it was on TV sometime in my childhood. I was pretty scared of fleshless bodies for a while. 4. The Twilight Zone gremlin - of course there’s a gif of the seminal moment. It wasn’t so much the grotesqueness of the face as the sudden reveal. I was scared to open shades for years after. 5. Ghosts of Gettysburg was some 90s true ghost stories show I saw very young, probably when I wasn’t supposed to be watching TV late at night; it scared me shitless, even though it was just stories and some shaky CG, I think what really got to my little mind was that it was “real.” Probably what ignited my fascination with true ghost tales now. -- source link
