gunrunnerhell:MoosedThis infamous photo first appeared in 2005, with many people questioning how an AR-15 in .223/5.56x45mm could take down a moose. The rifle is actually an Alexander Arms 50 Beowulf using 400 grain jacketed bullets from about 200 yards, which is stretching the cartridge’s effective range.According to the hunter, it required two quick shots to the shoulder but the moose remained standing for 30 seconds before tipping over dead. From 200 yards, the two bullets shattered both of the shoulders before mushrooming and embedding on the opposite side of the animal’s hide. You can read more about the hunt in the original thread where the photo surfaced.Source -- source link
