darktownbakery: illluminaries: Dragon Age II: Companion Spaces Anders’ Clinic 1/7 I always wonder how Anders got his hands on the clinic. I mean, perhaps Lirene was involved with that, but she is doing stuff on the Ferelden refugee front and the Ferelden refugees don’t exactly have a ton of weight to throw around. But like, in spite, of that, Anders somehow managed to get a piece of prime goddamn real estate. I mean, look at those windows. Windows! I’d hazard a guess that it’s quite a small amount of space in Darktown that actually opens up to the bay and has some air (makes sense, as it used to be a mine). I suppose it’s possible that having windows might not actually be a highly desirable thing within Darktown, if it got cold in the winter – but Kirkwall seems to have a mild climate (we never see it having any other climate, anyway), and if it did get too cold, you could always find somewhere else to stay for the season. Like, the positives of having windows seem to FAR OUTWEIGH the negatives – light! As opposed to the rest of Darktown, which is a dark, damp maze in which if you don’t have something to burn you don’t get to see. Ventilation! As opposed to the rest of Darktown, where the smoke of burning wood and oil lingers and coats anything, lagging anywhere to escape to, where a POISONOUS MIST known as chokedamp is always a threat. Breeze! When the summers in a frigging mine must be sweltering. Like, yeah. Windows. Windows. Also, check out that fancy fucking desk in the last image. Like that thing is solid, decorated, inlaid wood. Anders, where the fuck did you get that thing. I highly doubt dragging a huge heavy desk down to Darktown was your top priority upon first moving into your clinic, yet, when we first meet you, it’s already there. This leads me to believe that that nice desk was already in the space when Anders got there – which begs the question, who in Darktown has a nice fancy desk? Also, the rest of that furniture is not too shabby. A little rough, maybe, but painted such a cheerful red. And there are some decorations, banners, murals – kinda grody, sure, but still a nice touch. Like I said: prime goddamn real estate. Anders, how did you get your hands on it? Perhaps I will imagine that it happened like this: Anders lands in Darktown in search of somewhere to establish himself under the radar. He looks this way, looks that way, finds the space, and decides, yeah, this suits me pretty well. Only problem is, the space is already occupied. It’s the base for some high-ranking boss in the Coterie. This boss, you know, he’s got a pretty high opinion of himself. He’s powerful enough to run everybody else out of his nice big room with its nice big windows; he had a fancy desk imported so that he can sit at it regally as if he’s the frigging Viscount presiding over his affairs. He’s pretty comfy. He’s pretty proud of himself. And then Anders shows up, and he’s like, Nah, this is mine now. And this Coterie boss is like, guffawing, like, Excuse you? Get out of here before I have you run through, boy. And Anders JUSTICES RIGHT THE FUCK OUT, and he is like, NAH, THIS IS MINE NOW. And that particular branch of the Coterie was never heard from again. Which is why Varric has to go to such expense to keep the rest of the Coterie off Anders’ back for years to come. Varric is like, sigh. Oh, Blondie. But the people of Darktown are pretty pleased to switch out an exploitative, thieving, murdering Coterie boss for an endearingly cranky, tired-eyed, gentle-handed healer. -- source link
