barbucomedie: Dagger from India dated to the Late 18th Century on display at the Queen’s Gallery in EdinburghThe dagger, or Khanjar has a hilt carved from jade which, along with the design, suggests it was made in the Mughal Empire. The use of Jade in the empire rose after the reign of Alamgir (1658-1707) who opened trade routes with Qing Dynasty China. At some point the dagger made it’s way to Nepal, presumably as a diplomatic gift. In turn the first Rana Prime Minister of Nepal, Sir Jung Bahadur Kunwar Ranaji (born Bir Narsingh Kunwar) gifted it to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (future King Edward VII) during his visit to India in 1875.Photographs taken by myself -- source link
