Lotte Laserstein (Nov. 28, 1898 - 1993) was a Jewish artist who had to flee her native Germany in the late 1930s as the Nazis began forcing artists they disapproved of out of the art world, and making threats against their lives. She married a Swede and relocated to Stockholm, later settling in Kalmar. Her mother was denied permission to follow her and perished n the Camps in 1943.Laserstein had done major work in Germany, and was recognized abroad as a great portrait painter. Her masterpiece Abend über Potsdam from 1930 now hangs in the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.In Sweden her work hangs at Nationalmusum and Moderna Museet, Stockholm.
