This is Angel. She was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Jack Russell mix, 13 years old, and loved to be around people. This is her story.Angel was a rescue dog. We got her as a 1 year old puppy. She was small, underweight, and riddled with all kinds of illnesses, but my family did everything they could to get her the help she needed, and in time, she eventually got better. My niece dubbed her as “Angel” because of a shirt she used to wear to help her keep warm while she had little little fur of her own to do so. She was a nice, happy, and healthy dog within the first year we got her.The next 12 years that followed were some of the best years of our lives. She was around for so much goings on in our family life, seeing me go through college, university and beyond, the births and passings of family members alike. Through the good times and the bad times, Angel was always there, ready and waiting with a happy smile to welcome us home and love us all. In the last year, she was diagnosed with high blood pressure and a kidney disease, to which she needed to have special food and pills in order to protect and maintain healthy kidney’s. We thought that was the worst of it, but yesterday, things became worse when she started to have problems with her stomach. My parents, rather than proceeding to have her go through a treatment which the vet described would only allow her to live for weeks at best, decided to do Angel a kindness and had her put to sleep this morning. It was the best that they could do for her, and in all honesty, I am not as sad as I expected I would be. I guess I got all my emotions out when they said her kidney problem was a cause for concern, and last month when she fell ill from allergies. At the end of the day, I’m just glad that she isn’t in any more pain and doesn’t need to suffer through anything else.We could have let my older brother have her when he moved out, since she was his dog and all, but we kept her and gave her a better life than he would have, and she spent every single day of it comfortable and happy. I’m glad that my parents made the decision to keep her all those years ago.Angel was a good girl, a best friend, and I’m going to miss her every single day she isn’t here with us anymore. Rest in Peace, Angel. I’m happy that me and my family made the life you had in this crazy world that much more meaningful. -- source link
