GreatLakes Central to BatesTodaywe see a local job moving some lumber between Traverse City, Michigan, and acustomer, Amerhart, at a spot called Bates, near Williamsburg. This order, of four cars, is thelargest I’ve seen thus far (in the last few years). Here the train can be seen running betweenFive Mile Road and Routes 72/31—with Grand Traverse Bay, East Arm, in thebackground. The second image shows the train approaching Bunker Hill Road, Acme, while the final image has the train at its destination. The rail line pictured here was once the Pere Marquette Railway, andthe C&O after that; the locomotive is an EMD GP38-2 built in 1972 for the Penn Central.Three images by Richard Koenig; taken July 7th 2017. -- source link
